Check-A-Mate

Our Check-A-Mate is one of our most popular services. This type of service has been spotlighted in the media recently both in Costa Rica and the USA, and has been featured on Ophra as a “great idea”.

As we’ve mentioned, Costa Rican women (and some men) are great…that is great at scamming Gringos. While it is best to gain this information before you begin making payments to a fiance, Check-A-Mate is advisable even if you have already entered into a “maintenance” type of financial situation with the love of your life…it’s a small price to pay to protect both your wallet and your heart.

This is how it works:
You provide us with your significant other’s names (as many as you have), passport/resident number, any information that he/she has supplied to you (including how many children, addresses, etc.) and we will provide you with the truth. Our information usually includes criminal records, some past relationships (marriages/divorces), job’s held, pending legal issues, etc.

Within 2-3 days WillSpy will provide a written report with your significant other’s real names, the actual address(es) for herself and her mother & children. Additionally, we will also confirm or deny other information provided to you. Our past experience has shown us that more than 80% of the time our client learns a great deal more than the significant other had revealed. Information is power in Costa Rica, and we want to empower you.

Costs are variable depending upon how much information you can provide, and the complexity of the case, but $300 – $500 is our normal range for a background check using the Check-A-Mate Service. Real Estate Due Diligence

Property scams are legendary in Costa Rica. Many of our clients have saved $50,000 – $100,000 as the result of performing this type of due diligence BEFORE they entered into a transaction. Know before you buy…..or it may be too late.

To activate the due diligence, travel around with your Real Estate agent and locate the property you desire. Please do not sign any documents, but bring all documents and any other information to WillSpy. Advise the Real Estate agent you need a day or so to think it over and we will provide the full background on the property including answering the following questions:

  1. Does it has a clear title?
  2. What is the history of the ownership?
  3. What was the last last selling price? (Properties resell often here in a short period of time.)
  4. What are the crime statistics for the home and the surrounding area?

If you’re buying property, the small price you pay for our fees, can save you you a small fortune. Fees vary, but are usually in the $800 – $1000 range for the full background investigation. Call us for specific information, and the general location of your dream home.

Process Service

A difficult concept for USA attorneys and agents to recognize, Costa Rica addresses are a little more “creative” than you would find in the USA. It is not uncommon for an address to read: 25 meters north of the 2nd stoplight, south on the first road, 4th house on the left. Unfortunately, stop lights are frequently moved, a road that was previously, “first” is now the “third” road, and houses are either added or deleted. As a result, service fees are a little higher here than in the USA. Call or email us for exact quotes, based on the region of Costa Rica where you need to effect service. We’ll find them and our rates are highly competitive locally.
